Dr. Richard Parker participated in an advanced dental sleep medicine course on March 29 and 30th, hosted by The American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dental sleep medicine involves treating obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliances. Dr. Parker has special training and experience in the assessment and use of these devices.
Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition that diminishes or stops one's ability to breathe while sleeping. This condition is associated with cardiovascular and other diseases, increased motor vehicle accidents, and diminished quality of life. Oral appliance therapy is often an alternative to traditional CPAP for treating this condition.
