Wine & Cheese by TCC: Bites Nearby

Wine lovers won't leave whining after visiting this cozy downtown Plainfield spot.

There are variations of wine knowledge, from the acutely honed skills of a wine connoisseur to those individuals who just consider themselves wine kind-of-sewers

But the wine world is not as elite as it once seemed—rather, today’s wine enthusiasts are usually just common folks who’ve learned by tasting various wines and remembering their favorites.

Wine & Cheese by TCC is just the spot for those who are aficionados or new to the world ofoenophilia (love of wines).

The acronym TCC stands for “Two Clueless Chicks,” but the sophisticated atmosphere in this wine bar and café contradicts the self-deprecating yet humorous description of the commercial banking duo that began their business venture in 2004.

Partners Anna Trost and Beth McNichol don’t get to see each other during daily operations (McNichol, who manages financial aspects of the business, lives in New Jersey) but Trost is quick to praise their proficient staff for their success.

“Jason, our chef, always does special things with the menu,” Trost said. “For instance, we just got organic figs in, so he’ll incorporate those into the menu.”

The carefully selected wines, along with a host of imported beers and microbrews compliment a meticulously orchestrated gourmet menu that includes artisan meats and cheeses.

Summer additions to the menu include homemade hummus, truffled frites, heirloom tomato caprese salad, chicken framboise salad and lobster ravioli with organic mushrooms.

TCC strives to provide customers with the very best meat, eggs and produce through established relationships with two organic growers.

“We focus here on using organic and locally sourced products,” Trost explained. “Some things we grow ourselves but always in a sustainable manner.”

TCC hosts Green Market Saturdays at 10 a.m. during the summer and features the weekly offerings from local growers.

Complimentary wine tastings are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to visit the website’s newsletter to check for additional information.
