Poll: Have You Spent More or Less on Christmas Presents This Year?

A Gallup poll found Americans estimate they will spend more on Christmas presents this year. What do you think?

Americans, according to a recent Gallup poll, estimate they will spend an average of $764 on Christmas gifts this year—$50 more than the $714 they estimated at this time last year, and more than $100 above the depressed levels they forecast in November 2008 and 2009.

The $764 figure would represent a three-year high in Americans spending habits. In 2008, Americans said they planned on spending on average $866 on Christmas gifts. That number plummeted to just $616 the next year.

The numbers are based on a Gallup survey conducted Nov. 3-6.
