Lemont Dentist Wins Top Doc Award

Dr. Jennifer Splitt Krull of Lemont Family Dental was featured during a commercial break of the Dr. Oz Show last week.

If you watched the Dr. Oz Show on FOX last week, you may have seen a familiar face.

During one of the show's commercial breaks, Lemont Family Dental's Dr. Jennifer Splitt Krull was featured on a Top Doc America segment advertising the company’s physician and dental referral services. Krull was selected by Top Doc America to appear in the company’s advertising after winning a 2011 Top Doc award late last year.

According to Top Doc America, the company chooses those doctors and dentists deemed to be in the top 10 percent of their peers in each region for the award. The winners are chosen based on nominations, interviews and patient reviews.

“I wasn’t expecting it, but it was nice to be recognized for how I approach my practice and educate my team,” Krull said.

A lifelong Lemont resident, Krull opened her dental practice in Lemont nearly 20 years ago. She believes her commitment to continuing education was an important factor to the selection committee.

“In life, you have a choice of being stagnant or being a lifelong learner,” she said. “I knew that I wanted my skills to get better and that I wanted to treat my patients as a whole person.”

With that commitment in mind, she has traveled around the country attending seminars and programs to learn advanced dental techniques. In May, she and her entire staff attended training in Boston to learn about the latest in dental implants.

To be featured in the Top Doc segment, Krull and her staff welcomed a production team to their office in December. She said she hopes the Top Doc commercials will help patients make good decisions about their health.

“I hope people seek out dentists and health care providers who value keeping the whole body healthy, continuing their education, getting to know them as a patient and committing to their total health,” she said.

Nancy Mikeworth, who has been a dental assistant in Krull’s office for the past 16 years, said she was proud to see her team featured on television.

“It was a fun experience for everybody involved,” Mikeworth said. “We’re always on the cutting edge with new products and technologies, and Jennifer does a great job keeping up with all that.”
