Shoppers at Jewel-Osco locations have until Friday, Sept. 13, to help the store and its deli supplier, Dietz & Watson, reach their goal of donating 20,000 pounds of meats and cheese to the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
The Lemont Jewel-Osco store is located at 1202 State St.
Dietz & Watson, based in Philadelphia, has been family run for four generations.
“We believe in good food and good people," Chairman Ruth "Momma Dietz" Eni said in a prepared statement. “We’re not a faceless corporation writing a check and walking away. We’re a family company. We believe in deeper bonds. So we’re partnering with Jewel-Osco and Northern Illinois Food Bank to help.”
Northern Illinois Food Bank has seen a surge in need throughout the 13 counties it serves, according to its website.
Northern Illinois Food Bank has provided meals to those in need through programs and partnerships with food manufacturers, local groceries, corporations, foundations and individuals for 30 years. Food is distributed to 700 network partners serving more than 60,000 hungry neighbors each week. That commitment provided 42 million meals last year to those in need.
