Goodwill to Open Lemont Store on Aug. 24

The retail and donation center will celebrate its grand opening weekend Friday, Aug. 24, through Sunday, Aug. 26, at 1146 State St.

A new Goodwill retail and donation center is set to open this month in Lemont.

The 21,000-square-foot store, located at 1146 State St., will celebrate its grand opening weekend Friday, Aug. 24, through Sunday, Aug. 26, with contests, prizes, refreshments and giveaways. Doors open at 8 a.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

Hourly contests and prices will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Throughout the weekend, customers will receive a free reusable shopping bag with any purchase, while supplies last.

The first customers to donate or purchase items will win special prizes. Customers may also enter to win a gift basket with a hat and card signed by Chicago Blackhawks players Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp, as well as a $25 Goodwill gift card.

Goodwill stores sell previously donated items such as clothing, kitchen accessories and more. Gently used items are accepted at the donation center on the south end of the building.

More than 40 workers have been hired to staff the Lemont location, according to Cheryl Lightholder, spokesperson for Goodwill Industries of Metropolitan Chicago.

Lightholder that the new store will be "a great addition" to the growing company.

"It's important to look for locations that will support donations, and we think the Lemont community will certainly do that," she said. "We also look at locations where we can provide an easy, convenient way for people in that area to shop."

According to Goodwill's website, 84 percent of revenue from all retail centers go toward the company's mission of providing training, employment and supportive services for people with disabilities or disadvantages.

The company also offers vouchers and discounts at its retail centers for those in need through the "Goodwill Cares" program. In Lemont, the local partners are the Hope and Friendship Foundation and .

The Goodwill store will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The donation center will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
