District 113A Educational Foundation Hosts Back-to-School Fiesta

The second annual fundraiser will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Front Street Cantina, 319 Front St.

The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Educational Foundation will host its second annual Back-to-School Fiesta on Saturday.

The fundraiser, sponsored by Oxbow Midwest Calcining and John Piazza Country Financial, will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. next to Front Street Cantina, 319 Front St.

"Everyone seemed to really enjoy having an event for families, so we decided to make the Fiesta an annual tradition," said Shelly Taylor, president of the foundation. "This will be our only event this yea, so we are hoping for a big turnout."

The fiesta will feature a kid-friendly Mexican buffet and sundae bar provided by Front Street Cantina, games, live music and raffles. Two bag tournaments will be held—one for adults and one for kids.

Organizers decided to hold the fiesta later this year so students and teachers would have a chance to get to know each other, Taylor said.

One of the highlights of the event is a raffle full of prizes donated by district teachers. Students can win movie nights, picnic lunches, extra recess, and other fun activities with their teachers and principals.

Other prizes include rides to school in a police car or fire truck, and original art donated by Oakwood Principal Cathy Slee.

“The Fiesta is a great time for families to get to know each other and district staff in a casual environment,“ Taylor said.

Tickets are $20 for adults (includes adult drink ticket) and $10 for students under 12. All tickets include food and soft drinks, games and activities for children.

All proceeds will fund grants awarded to District 113A teachers and staff. Past grants have provided new technology and learning resources for all grade levels in the district.

Tickets can be purchased online, at school or from a foundation board member.
