Weekend Roundup: St. Patty's Parade, Clothing Resales, Chris Wheatley Fundraiser

Saturday is jam-packed with events around Lemont, and we've got all the scoop.

From a downtown parade to multiple fundraisers, Saturday is shaping up to be one of Lemont's busiest days of the year.

Lemont St. Patrick's Day Festival/Parade

When: Parade begins at 1 p.m. and festival continues through 5 p.m.

Where: Parade will travel along Stephen and Main streets in downtown Lemont; festival will be held at the , 15780 New Ave.

Details: The Chicago Stockyard Kilty Band will play during the parade. The Hughes Academy of Irish Dance will perform at 1:30 p.m. at VFW Hall, following by "Celtic sounds" at 3 p.m.

The village will hold a contest for best soda bread during festivities at VFW Hall. All entries must be dropped off by 3 p.m. Judges will rate appearance, authenticity and taste. The baker must be present to win.

 senior Mary McKevitt was chosen by the village as this year's . As the 2012 Irish Queen, she will wear a green dress during the parade and ride in a horse-drawn carriage.

Hope and Friendship's "Give That Dress Another Night Out"

When: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Where: , 13400 Bell Road

Details: Terri O'Neill, founder of the Hope and Friendship Foundation, said the sale will include gently used prom dresses, formal attire and accessories. As of last week, more than 100 dresses had been donated.

The event gifts dresses to those who cannot afford them, and sells dresses to others at a cost of only $20.

Spring/Summer Resale at First Chuch of the Nazarene

When: 9 a.m. to noon

Where: , 12725 Bell Road

Details: The First Church of the Nazarene’s children’s resale will have clothes ranging in size from infants to 16 months, as well as baby equipment, furniture, nursery decor, toys and more.

Besides offering children’s items at a discount, volunteer Nicole Britton said the sale will also help community members in need. Hourly gift certificates will be given out. People can sign up as they enter and if chosen as a winner they will be able to spend the certificate at the sale.

Old Quarry vs. Village People Charity Basketball Game

When: 6 p.m.

Where: , 16100 W. 127th St.

Details: The Old Quarry boys and girls basketball teams will take on "the Village People" for the school's second annual charity basketball game. The opposing team will include former Lemont Mayor John Piazza, Trustee Cliff Miklos, village staff, firefighters, police officers and teachers. Lemont Fire Chief Carl Churulo and Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy will serve as coaches.

The Old Quarry dance and cheerleading teams will perform during the event, while musical entertainment will be provided by the Old Quarry Band. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

All proceeds will benefit the Warrior Booster Club, which supports extracurricular activities in .

Christopher Wheatley Memorial Fundraiser

When: 6 p.m.

Where: , 319 Front St.

Details: Family and friends of  will continue to honor his memory in the coming years with the expansion of a memorial scholarship program.

To kick off fundraising efforts in 2012, the foundation will be  at Front Street Cantina on Saturday. All tips collected at the bar will go toward the scholarship program.
