Community Corner

Warm a Heart with 'Sack Lunches with Spirit'

Hope and Friendship Foundation seeks donations, volunteers to lift the spirits of clients at missions, senior centers.

Hope and Friendship Foundation is encouraging members of the community to donate sack lunch necessities, notes of inspiration, support, valentines and if possible, to volunteer to help pack up to 500 “sack lunches with spirit.”

The lunches will be distributed to Morningstar and Daybreak missions in Joliet, as well as to seniors who enjoy meeting for lunch at the Lemont Township Community Center with the CNN lunch program and seniors who reside at St. Francis Residence at Holy Family Villa.

Vounteers are needed to help assemble the lunches at 11 a.m. Feb. 9, at the Lemont Township office at 1115 Warner Ave., then delivered by friends of Hope and Friendship to friends at the missions and senior centers for their pre-Valentine’s Day lunches.

And here’s what’s needed for the “spirit” part:

Hope and Friendship Foundation is hoping members of the community will create and donate at least 1,000 uplifting notes, inspiring quotes and Valentines (enough to include at least two in each sack lunch). The group also welcomes donations of $5 gift cards to McDonald’s, Burger King or Subway, which be tucked into each sack to provide another lunch for every mission client and senior who receives a “sack lunch with spirit.”

Drop off notes, valentines and gift cards in the lobby of the Lemont Police Department or Lemont Township office anytime before Feb. 9. Monetary donations in the form of checks may also be mailed to Hope and Friendship Foundation at 721 Hickory St., Lemont, IL 60439.
