Registration Ongoing for Lemont Fire's Golf Outing for Wounded Veterans

Golfers still welcome to register for the July 30 event.

Lemont Fire Local 3966 will host a golf outing to support wounded veterans.

The event will be held July 30 at Ruffled Feathers, 1 Pete Dye Dr., in Lemont. Check in starts at 7 a.m., with tee-off at 9 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the Associated Firefighters of Illinois Warrior Program.

Started by Chicago Fire Fighters Local 2 in 2010, the program centers around  an effort to help wounded soldiers in Illinois. The program has provided four vehicles to four severely wounded heroes and plans on presenting two more vehicles by the end of 2014. Organizers also seek to help the families of wounded veterans build new ramps, or help retrofit homes with wider doors.

"Lemont Local 3966 supports our troops," the website reads. "Their dedication to support and defend our freedoms is the lifeblood of this great country. This year's outing is dedicated to support those who have made the sacrifice. We are raising funds to help the AFFI Warrior Program to support a local warrior who has served their country, have been wounded in action, now home, and lives with the reminder everyday that he/she has sacrificed for his/her country. We want to help him or her by trying to make his or her life a little easier."

Registration is $100 per golfer, or $400 per foursome. Includes dinner served after outing. Single golfers welcome. Find more info online.
