Park District Welcomes New Commissioner, Selects Board Officers

Brian Pepich was formally approved as a Lemont Park District commissioner Tuesday night.

The  Board officially appointed new Commissioner Brian Pepich during its monthly business meeting Tuesday night.

Pepich, a 17-year resident of Lemont, is a longtime firefighter who has assisted the park district with several projects in years past. He will serve the remaining term—one year—of former Commissioner Mike Colaizzi,  to pursue a new career opportunity in California.

Board President Pat Sexton said there were seven applicants for Colaizzi's position, and Pepich "stood above the rest."

"It was a very easy decision," Sexton said. "Brian Pepich has been a true supporter of the park district ... and a steward of the community. It's my pleasure to appoint one of the hardest working guys I know."

Pepich has supported the Lemont Park District in a variety of ways, from serving as precinct captain during the referendum effort in 2007 to securing $100,000 in in-kind donations for the construction of the Chicago White Sox Miracle Field. He also served on the district's safety committee.

Last week, he's "thrilled to be taking on more active role in the Lemont community."

"I've been involved with various things for a long time, but this is an exciting opportunity to really make a difference and take on more responsibility in the park district," he said.

During Tuesday's meeting, the board also selected officers for the upcoming year.

Sexton will retain his position as board president, and Commissioner Jim Davoren will stay on as treasurer. John Diorio was appointed vice president, a position held by Colaizzi before his departure.

Louise Egofske, executive director of the Lemont Park District, will continue to serve as board secretary.
