Park District Unveils 'Freedom Days' Celebration for June 29–July 3

Check out a new series of events leading up to Lemont's Fourth of July festivities.

Lemont Park District staff decided that a dreadful winter should be followed by a delightful summer, and together they brainstormed the village's first-ever Freedom Days celebration.

The fun is slated for the days leading up to the Independence Day Extravaganza Celebration held at Centennial Campus on July 3, and will include a color run, a "pack the pool," a community kite fly, and a Zumba class to benefit the troops.

Freedom Days kicks off June 29, with the Color Me Proud Freedom 5K a new color run that starts at 8 a.m. at Centennial Campus. Red, white and blue color stations will be located throughout the course ready to blast runners as they go by. The final station will be a kaleidoscope of colors like an awesome fireworks display. The park district will pay tribute to local veterans July 2, with a Red, White and Zumba event. The event will begin at Legion Park and will conclude at the Lemont VFW where refreshments will be served. The event is free but donations will be collected for the cause. Folks can also enjoy “FREE TO BE FIT” all-day open house at The CORE.

Freedom Days will continue on July 3, as crowds flock to Lemont’s highly anticipated “Independence Day Extravaganza” that will be held at Lemont Park District’s Centennial Campus. The event will start at 4 p.m., and will feature the Park District Foundation Beer Garden, a food court comprised of local restaurant fare, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, bean bag tournament and children’s activities including fun giant inflatables. Named Chicagoland’s Premier Country band by US 99, Hillbilly Rockstarz  will take the stage at 6 p.m.

A fireworks show sponsored by the park district, Village of Lemont and Lemont Township will start at dusk July 3.
