Mark Your Calendars for Fire District Open House

Popular event will take place Sunday, Oct. 14, at Fire Station One.

Lemont Fire Protection District invites the community to its annual open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Fire Station One, 15900 New Avenue.

Held during Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 7-13), the event promises a day full of good, old-fashioned fun for the entire family. Last year’s open house, which celebrated the fire district’s 125th anniversary, drew hundreds of enthusiastic guests.

“There will be activities for people of all ages to enjoy,” said Lemont Fire Protection District Chief Carl Churulo. “Our event will be rain or shine.”

The open house will feature opportunities to visit with firefighters and their families, tour some of the department’s emergency vehicles, see the Life-Star helicopter and get to know the Lemont Police Department’s K-9 officer, “Taser.”

Also  featured at the event will be representatives of the U.S. Coast Guard, Good Samaritan Hospital, NICOR and Lemont Emergency Management Agency.

Sponsors for the open house include CITGO, Seneca Petroleum, Exxon-Mobil, IMTT and Bridgestone-Firestone.

The Lemont Fire Protection District covers an area of approximately 40 square miles. Its four stations serve the Village of Lemont and portions of Woodridge, Darien, Bolingbrook and Homer Glen.

‘Be the Match’ registration

This year, the fire district will share its open house with a “Be the Match” bone marrow donor registration event, in support of Chief Churulo’s 4-year-old granddaughter, Katie, who is in need of a bone marrow transplant in the near future.

Katie Churulo has been diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, (HLH), a rare immune disorder.
