The much anticipated, super hero-themed theatre camp for people with special needs began accepting registrations via mail March 1, with an in-person registration opportunity at Lemont High School.

Lemont’s newly formed Little Mountain Community Theatre NFP will sponsor the weeklong camp in partnership with an organization called Artful IMPACT! The Super Hero Camp will be held July 7 through 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the LHS Performing Arts Center.

Registration for the Super Hero Camp will be done through Artful IMPACT!  A link to more information and registration and intake forms on the Artful IMPACT website is available through www.littlemountaintheatre.org by clicking the Education tab and going to Workshop Registration.

In person registration will take place March 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the atrium of the front archway entrance of LHS. Interested participants are encouraged to print registration and intake forms from the website. The forms and payment can then be brought to registration at LHS or mailed to Artful IMPACT! Cost of the camp is $300. Space is limited to 30 participants.

Participants will spend the week focusing on the specific powers or traits of a super hero by rotating through workshops such as Stunt Double, Light Saber Duel, and Kapow! The Comic Book Experience. They will also get the chance to fly like Superman and scale the walls like Spiderman and Catwoman.

“We are very excited about creating this unique camp experience for our community,” said Heather Hutchison, Artistic Director for LMCT. “Everyone involved will take away the sense that they can ‘change the world’ by using their individual super powers.  We can't wait to help the campers explore those possibilities!”

LMCT was founded in late 2013 by a group of dedicated residents and experienced theatre professionals with a mission to educate individuals of all ages and abilities, to entertain audiences, and to enrich Lemont and the surrounding communities with the presence of live theatre. The group’s name comes from the translation of the French words Le Mont which mean “the mountain”.

“We believe that LMCT will offer unique opportunities to individuals who already have a love of theatre as well as people who want to explore a new interest,” said Sandy Doebert, President of the LMCT Board of Directors. “This extraordinary and unique camp will provide the chance for people with special needs to leave barriers behind as they become the hero in classic clashes between good and evil.”

Artful IMPACT! is a wellspring of creative resources dedicated to making people stronger through the arts. An Illinois not for profit with a regional focus and a global reach, it leverages creativity, talent, funding, and energy to empower individuals, organizations, and businesses through arts experience.
