Lemont's "Green Home," the house selected to be featured on the show Built to Last® will be coming to a TV screen near you, Saturday, Jan. 25.
The 13-episode series captures every step of the process, from the initial planning and blueprint phase, to breaking ground and completion of the five-bedroom, 2,565-square-foot home—located in Briarcliffe subdivision, just off 127th Street.
"Our goal with building the 'Green Home' is to be the industry leader when it comes to construction of new homes that are built for energy efficiency and optimum performance," said Carpenters' President Frank Libby. "We maintain the most advanced training program, producing skilled tradesmen who are properly prepared to meet today's energy-efficient needs."
The "Green Home" is LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), meaning it was built in a way that reduces the negative impacts of buildings on occupants and the environment in five general categories: sustainable site planning; safeguarding water and water efficiency; energy efficiency and renewable energy; conservation of materials and resources; and indoor environmental quality.
The home features an open floor plan, multizone mechanicals, energy-efficient appliances, solar panels, a rainwater retention system, and a dashboard of residential controls to regulate heating, lighting, ventilation, air conditioning, appliances, security and other systems.
