Lemont United Methodist Senior High Youth Group: Whiz Kids

Each week, we'll feature a whiz kid, club or group from Lemont.

Each week, Lemont Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.  Submit your nomination in our comment box below or e-mail the information to Local Editor Amanda Luevano at amanda@patch.com. Be sure to include all of the information included below.

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: On Sunday, Feb. 20, the group threw a Country Bash with games, line dancing and karaoke for a group of teens from the Mooseheart Child City & School in Batavia. According to the Mooseheart website, the community and school "provides complete home care, education and training for youth whose families are unable, for a wide variety of reasons, to care for them. Some have lost one or both parents; others are living in environments that are simply not conducive to healthy growth and development."

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Karin Peraino, who nominated the group, described the students as "open, friendly, accepting and caring."

She added: "It was amazing to see the way that youth from these two different environments interacted. welcomed Mooseheart with open arms and treated them as friends right from the start, and Mooseheart responded with equal enthusiasm. Both groups were polite, friendly, outgoing, and eager to interact and learn about one another.
