Lemont resident Michaela Tauer was recognized by Lemont Park District on Tuesday for winning gold at this year's Illinois Special Olympics Summer Games.

Tauer, 14, won two gold medals earlier this summer—one in the 50-meter dash and the other in "softball throw."

She was recognized Tuesday by Lemont Park District staff and trustees at their monthly business meeting.

Tauer has been part of the Tri-County Special Recreation Association since she was 8 year old, starting in track and field and branching out into everything from swim and dance to SRA summer camps.

She has won numerous gold medals in track and field, according to park district officials.

Tauer just started her freshman year at Lemont High School. In addition to her SRA activities, she will be part of the“Sparkles” cheerleading and dance team, which performs at various LHS home games.
