Lemont Ushers in Christmas Season with 'Hometown Holiday'

The annual downtown event featured sleigh rides, face painting, tree decorating, ice sculptures and a visit from Santa Claus.

From Santa Claus to sleigh rides, Lemont's annual "Hometown Holiday" celebration offered plenty of Christmas fun Saturday for children and adults alike.

The event, held in downtown Lemont, featured holiday crafts, face painting, ice sculpting and performances from the Allegro Dancers.

The Lemont Girl Scouts sponsored the inaugural “Christmas Cards to Heroes” program at Community Christian Church, 102 Stephen St. Throughout the afternoon, families stopped by to write notes and draw pictures for soldiers overseas.

Several Girl Scouts also spent the day passing out cookies and hot chocolate in front of , 103 Stephen St. Prior to the lighting of the main tree in Budnik Plaza, the girls led the crowd in a number of Christmas carols.

Following the tree lighting, dozens of families packed , 316 Canal St., for pictures with Santa.
