Four-Way Stop Signs Installed at McCarthy-Walker Intersection in Lemont

The new stop signs were installed to control traffic as IDOT works to install traffic signals.

New four-way stop signs were installed Tuesday at Lemont's busy McCarthy-Walker Road intersection, police said.

Lemont officials said motorists should be aware of the new stop signs as they travel the area, which is currently under construction by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The $1.7 million project, which has been in the works for the past five years, involves the modernization of the traffic lanes and signals at the intersection, located about one-half mile west of Archer Avenue.

During the July 22 village board meeting, Lemont Public Works Director Ralph Pukula said IDOT has 65 days to complete the project, which means all road work should be finished by the end of October.
