Pets on Parade: Lemont Township Hosts Annual 'Howl-ween' Contest

The third annual pet parade and costume contest was held Sunday at Central Bark.

Halloween was for the dogs Sunday as costumed canines and their owners took over Lemont Township's for an afternoon of snacks and play.

The third annual "Howl-ween" pet parade featured nearly a dozen dogs dressed up as bumblebees, bats and pumpkins. After playing with their owners in the large park area, located at 127th Street and Timberline Drive in the Heritage Woodland Sanctuary, the dogs marched in front of judges to compete for "best costume."

Winning first place this year was Gus Quinn, whose detailed "search and rescue" costume wowed Lemont Township Supervisor Steve Rosendahl and Trustee Kathy Henrikson, who judged the contest.

Second place — the award for "most creative" costume — went to Wrigley, who was dressed as a squirrel. Winning third place was Ivy, who was dressed as a dog being eaten by a shark.

Guests also donated pet food and treats, which will deliver to the Open Food Pantries.
