Illinois Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno and Rep. Jim Durkin are expected to attend 7 p.m.  gathering at 12355 Thornberry Drive in Lemont.

Residents of Lemont’s Briarcliffe Estates will hold a neighborhood meeting Thursday to address the possibility of noise abatement along Interstate 355.

Illinois Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) and Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) are both expected to attend the gathering, which will begin at 7 p.m. at 12355 Thornberry Drive.

The meeting was organized by members of the Briarcliffe Estates Board of Directors and Sound Barrier Committee, who are calling for updated studies of noise and traffic along the Illinois Tollway.

“Traffic on 355 has increased threefold from when the Tollway last conducted noise studies,” the board stated in a public notice.  “Prospective home buyers in Briarcliffe were told that the berm would be adequate, but it’s not. Walls are going up now along I-80 in New Lenox and Mokena, funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

“Our request for noise studies based on current traffic, and noise abatement, is not impossible. All we want is the same solution that residents all along our tollway system have enjoyed since the state started building the walls two decades ago.”

Lemont residents are encouraged to attend Thursday’s meeting to sign a petition and rally for the neighborhood’s “safety, quality of life and property values.”
