Sore shoulders have you immobile?

Is the pain in your shoulder so intense that simply putting on a shirt is so excruciating? Many people don’t know the cause of their pain, and are unsure what do, so instead they continue to live in constant agony. To find relief, Silver Cross Hospital is offering a free program in June.

“It is unfortunate many people suffer from severe, chronic shoulder pain,” said Dr. Venkat Seshadri, orthopedic surgeon on staff at Silver Cross Hospital. “Thanks to some newer techniques, we have solutions for problems that we were unable to solve previously.”

If you are experiencing severe pain in the shoulder and have damage to the surrounding muscles, join Dr. Venkat Seshadri, orthopedic surgeon, to learn about a new procedure—Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty. This free lecture will be held on Tuesday, June 3 in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., Pavilion A, New Lenox at 6:30 p.m.  All participants will receive a GIFT BAG which includes a complimentary joint and back screening performed by a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician from the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Silver Cross, and other items to help you stay active ($125 Value). Register to attend at www.silvercross.org or call 1-888-660-HEAL (4325).

Causes of Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can be caused by a variety of conditions that include the following:

• Rotator cuff tears (partial or full thickness)

• Various types of arthritis (bone on bone)

• Biceps tendinosis, avulsion, or dislocation

• Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)

• Acromioclavicular arthritis (arthritis where the clavicle meets the shoulder)

• Acromioclavicular joint instability

• Infection

• Neck problems

“Common symptoms of shoulder pain sometimes indicate that a serious problem may exist,” said Dr. Seshadri. “If you can’t lift your shoulder overhead or are unable to complete common actions of daily life, it may be worthwhile to get a medical opinion.”

A variety of remedies are available to relieve shoulder pain from medications, therapy to surgery. “To determine the best plan of care to treat your shoulder pain, people should see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treatment of such conditions.”
