Village of Lemont Hosts Fall Recycling Day

Residents may bring used motor oil, paints, medications, electronics and more to the Metra parking lot on Saturday.

The Lemont Environmental Advisory Commission in inviting residents to dispose of unwanted household items during its Fall Recycling Day on Saturday.

The village will be collecting items from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Metra Parking Lot, 101 Main St. The event is for household recycling only and is not intended for commercial use.

Village officials also encourage participants in the recycling event to bring non-perishable food for donation to local food pantries.

The following items will be accepted for recycling or disposal Oct. 19:

  • Motor oil (includes fuel oil, lubricant oil, brake/transmission fluid and antifreeze); co-sponsored by CITGO Refinery.
  • Documents (disposal of personal papers; all documents will be shredded on site.); co-sponsored by Beaver Document Shredding.
  • Electronics (outdated equipment including PCs and computer peripherals, servers, networking equipment, stereo and home entertainment equipment, phone equipment and cell phones); co-sponsored by E-Scrap Technologies. TVs and microwaves cannot be accepted, but may be recycled at the Lemont Public Works building during regular business hours year-round.
  • Prescription medication; co-sponsored by the Lemont Police Department.
  • Scrap metal (old or used metal items such as iron, steel, aluminum; no propane tanks, liquids or sealed containers); co-sponsored by Lemont Scrap Processing.
  • Toner cartridges, printer ink, cell phones; Collection will benefit Lemont-Bromberek School District 113A.
  • CFL light bulbs or small fluorescent light bulbs, which may not be disposed of in the trash; co-sponsored by Waste Management.
  • Alkaline batteries; co-sponsored by Waste Management.
  • Latex paint (any color paint may be brought in cans or mixed into a five-gallon container. A recycling charge of $2.50 per gallon or $8 per five-gallon container will be charged); co-sponsored by Earth Paints Collection Systems.
