The Lemont Athletic Club (LAC), a youth travel basketball program, is focusing on player development through professional instructional clinics for both players and coaches in 2013.
A weekly player development clinic will be offered throughout the season, staffed by instructors from Beyond the Arc Academy. Academy staff includes current high school basketball coaches and former college players who work in small groups and one-on-one to develop players to their fullest potential.
LAC coaches will also participate in several professionally-run coaching clinics before and during the season.
In its ninth year, LAC currently has 11 teams, including teams for fourth-through eighth-grade boys and fifth-through eighth-grade girls. With more than 100 players and 20 coaches, the club is committed to skill enhancement for both groups.
LAC will be holding tryouts for the 2013-14 season Sept. 8-9 at the CORE Fitness and Aquatic Complex, 16050 W. 127th St. Tryout times vary based on level.
Interested players can access the schedule and register for tryouts at LAC’s website, www.lemontathleticclub.com.
“We are excited about seeing returning players and welcoming new players," LAC President Tom Geraghty said. "Our focus on player development supports our mission to provide a top-rate, competitive basketball program for student athletes in the Lemont area. All are welcome to try out, and we hope to see new faces.”
LAC claimed three league titles and 10 other top three spots in the last basketball season, playing in a variety of leagues and tournaments across Chicagoland. The organization teaches teamwork and life skills to help athletes mature and become successful in school, in life and on the court. LAC coaches emphasize sportsmanship, team commitment, skills improvement, and respect for teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials.Potential players and coaches can get more information by visiting lemontathleticclub.com or calling President Tom Geraghty at 630-660-3843.
