With only one contested race this election and a huge referendum question on the ballot, all eyes will be on District 113A this April. We will be updating this log with news, announcements, events notices and stances on issues all the way up to and past the April 5 consolidated election.
Official results from suburban Cook County's April 5 consolidated election were released Wednesday, including the final tally of write-in votes for District 113A candidate Janet Hughes. According to a release from Cook County Clerk David Orr's office, overall voter participation across Cook County was just under 17 percent. In Lemont Township, however, 39.3 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the consolidated election. The results also revealed for the first time the number of write-in votes garnered by Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board Member Janet Hughes: 850. …
April 7: Early Cook County Numbers Indicate Loss for Write-in Candidate Janet Hughes Unofficial results released Wednesday afternoon by Cook County Clerk David Orr indicate write-in candidate Janet Hughes will not retain her seat on the Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education. There were a total of 1,115 write-in votes cast in the District 113A race, where Hughes, was the only write-in candidate. Results from Cook and DuPage counties give candidate Al Malley 2,353 votes, which puts him in position to win the fourth open seat. Hughes would need 1,239 votes to surpass …
7 p.m. — Polls Closed in Lemont The polls are officially closed in Lemont, so head over to our 2011 Election Results page for minute-by-minute results, straight from Cook and DuPage counties. The four seats on the District 113A School Board are the only contested seats. Nine candidates are seeking election, including write-in candidate Janet Hughes. When to Vote The election takes place Tuesday, April 5. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Where to Vote Your polling place depends on which precinct you live in. To find your polling place, visit the Cook County Clerk's website. Polling places can change last minute. With a referendum at stake, the Lemont Public Library held its standing as the third busiest for early voting among suburban Cook County sites with contested races. Early Voting ended Thursday with robust turnout as 3,550 suburban Cook County voters cast ballots, Cook County Clerk David Orr said. With two days left in Early Voting and just one week until Election Day, Lemont voters are turning out in huge numbers. As of 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, the Lemont Public Library had 1,222 ballots cast, making it the third busiest Early Voting location in suburban Cook County (in areas with contested races), according to Cook County Clerk David Orr. The library trails only Centennial Ice Rink in Wilmette (2,774) and Chicago Heights City Hall (1,809). The Lemont Library saw its highest early voter turnout Friday, March 25, with 133 ballots cast. Early voting for the April 5 election begins Monday at the Lemont Public Library, 50 E. Wend St., and several other area locations. "Local officials affect lives a great deal, so voter participation is crucial," Cook County Clerk David Orr said in a statement. "Government functions better when more people are heard." During the March 9 forum hosted by Lemont Patch and the Lemont Junior Woman's Club, the majority of Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education candidates said they will support the $20 million working cash bond referendum. Candidate Cynthia Kelly said approving the referendum slated to appear on the April 5 ballot is necessary. “It will restore financial stability to the district and end the need of short-term loans,” she said.
