Fundraiser Will Help Local Project Get Cooking — And You Can Help

A Kickstarter.com fundraiser to bring a shared-use kitchen to Romeoville is live now through Friday, June 15.

Steve Buresh has already kickstarted his own career. But after founding his own business in the wake of losing his job, the man known as “the cheesecake guy” is looking to help other entrepreneurs get their start. Since launching “Steve Buresh’s Cheesecake Store,” Buresh has been working out of a shared-use kitchen in Homer Glen. But with that location closing, he realized there were no other local options for small food-based businesses. So he decided to start his own. Buresh hopes to bring a shared-use kitchen to the Romeoville area, providing a venue for entrepreneurs who need a certified, commercial kitchen to create their products. “There’s a demand for this,” Buresh told Patch last month. “This gives these entrepreneurs a chance to …

Tanorexia: Mom Talk

The New Jersey Tanning Mom raises questions about how to parent.

So let's assume that Patricia Krentcil did not bring her 6-year-old daughter into the tanning bed. Her daughter's school nurse reportedly believes otherwise. Her attorney is asking the world not to judge a book by its cover. That's tough to do when this book is leather bound. Setting aside the fact that she looks like a baseball glove with lipstick and a wig, her situation calls to light a number of questions. If we, ourselves, are so misguided about something — regardless of what it may be — that calls into question our own parenting skills. For example, if Krentcil needs to tan for 12 minutes 20 times a month, as the salon owner claims she does, what kinds of messages is she sending to her daughter about appearance and self esteem? Final Fitness, opened its doors April 28 with several upgrades to gym equipment and services.

A new gym and aerobics facility quietly opened its doors on State Street last month, taking over the space formerly occupied by Cardinal Fitness. Final Fitness, located at 1140 State Street, was started by Lemont residents Rick and Bernice Hill, who wanted to keep the gym open after Cardinal Fitness announced it was leaving town. "We had been going to Cardinal Fitness, and heard they were moving out. We didn't want to see the place disappear, so we decided to take over the space and open our own gym," Bernice Hill said.  The Hills bring more than 30 years of experience to their new business. Both held long-term positions at Bally Total Fitness, but always dreamed of owning a gym of their own. "We're excited to clean the place up and update…

My gift cert was purchased after the Jan. 12th date. Moda had no problem taking the money while …   more ›
