Wake up Al....History teaches us something...each and every time. Good things happen as well as bad Read Morethings. They are "history" because they are over and we can do anything about them but take a lesson. Good things give us a positive lesson in what to do! Your oft quoted folks like Marks, Stalin and I'll throw in Adolf and maybe Vadimier, all gave us a taste of bad things and a lesson in what not to do! All lessons have value. Our inability to communicate our ideas to each other point out how different people are...and, that too is a good thing. Finally I say, bless the visionaries for they lite the tunnel...get it Al?

Buster...the posts, off topic or not really contribute a lot to what is happening. In a way theyRead Moreref lect back on the opinion/position of the author of the articles. Sometimes they write a very eloquent piece and then blow their credibility in follow up posts. Kinda like a McDonalds French Fry...if you don't eat it on the way home, it tastes like crap! Posts expose people for who they really ...me thinks.

That is right Ed. How about this one? Remember when the ELECTED 113s school board andRead Moresuperintend ent (prior to Dr. Birkenmeier) sucked the district finances dry paid for pet cleaning and pizza parties and tried to sock yet another $20M referendum to the taxpayers. Were we supposed to just let this go? I am sorry Ed. I believe we should still have a voice no matter what. Just because someone is elected does not give them the right to take away my freedom of speech or right to have a say especially when I am paying for it. As you can see government is working so well. With the way all branches of government is running, sitting on our hands is only going to sink us farther down the hole.

An advisory referendum can be placed on the ballot either by the VOL Board or via petition. ViaRead Morepet ition, the number of signatures required is probably ~ + / - 600, although that would need to be verified (it probably is 8% of the total number of ballots cast in the 2010 Gubernatorial General Election - which = 7,818 in the entire township, that number would be lower within VOL limits). The limit is 3 ballot questions, but this limit does not include other questions that may be on the ballot by the State, County etc. Language needs to be neutral, along the lines of: "Shall the Village of Lemont secure a loan (or issue bonds) in the amount of $21,000,000 million dollars for the purpose of developing and building a sports complex owned and operated by the Village of Lemont for the purpose of providing indoor and outdoor facilities for Lemont and regional youth sports teams and other organizations for practice, games and tournaments." Language would need to be refined to reflect the actual dollar amount and proposed facility.

Let me SPECULATE as to why this property/ies were purchased by the Village. The butt end of theRead MoreCou nty is always a great place for your adult book stores, topless bars and the like. I own a Harley but never frequented the biker bars that existed in that area, guess why. A friend who was a Cook County Cop tells stories of drugs, prostitution and other unsavory events taking place in that area. To "clean things up" sometimes it is easier to just buy the property. I have no direct knowledge of what the Village thinking is but this is my best guess. Now, what they need is a nice hotel and Cracker Barrel, a Big R or a Farm and Fleet to service the needs of the area. I'm sure what redevelops in that location will be an improvement over what we had. I hope it is sooner than later however considering the time value of the money we invested there.

Very good article Al. What Mr. B.S. is forgetting is that he didn't ad interest to the proposedRead More$21 million, which was the estimate in January of 2013. We are now 14 months later and waiting for EPA and MWSD approval before a shovel can be put to the ground. Even the mayor stated in a February 2014 Village Board meeting that construction costs more than likely have increased to who knows what. With interest we are looking at a minimum of $40 million not $21 as you, B.S. state. Fact not fiction.
