Each week, Lemont Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.
We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. And without further ado, this week's Whiz Kid are...
Whiz Kid's Age: Girls ages 12-18
Whiz Kids' School: All schools
Officers: Sara Van Hecke (president), Ciara Athy (vice president), Sarah Lillwitz (treasurer) and Rachel Brunory (secretary)
Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: The Lemont Juniorettes will kick off the new school year with an ice cream social on Monday, Aug. 27, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lemont's Safety Village, 55 Stephen St.
Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: The Lemont Juniorettes organization is one of the most active youth service groups in the village. The club is open to girls ages 12 to 18, and is sponsored by the Lemont Junior Woman's Club.
The Juniorettes meet the second Tuesday of each month to discuss and volunteer for various projects around the Lemont area, including H.O.P.E. Closet, Breakfast with Santa, Ronald McDonald House and other projects associated with the Lemont Junior Woman's Club. Girls also hold fundraisers and social activities throughout the year.
Those interested in joining the Juniorettes are welcome to attend the club's first meeting of the year on Monday, Sept. 10. The meeting will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Safety Village, and will feature guest speaker Peggy Magdziarz, organizer of the upcoming Lemont Feed My Starving Children MobilePack.
