What Would You Improve in Lemont in 2013?
If you could make a New Year's resolution for Lemont, what would it be?
More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to eat healthier and exercise more, others promise to spend more time with their families, and still others say they will try to save more money.
As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their individual lives, what do you think we could do right here in Lemont to make it an even better place in which to live?
What new businesses are on your wish list? Do you have any ideas for how to improve local government, schools or infrastructure? What’s your biggest wish for Lemont in 2013?
Tell us in the comment section below or blog about why you love living here – and what improvements could be made to make Lemont an even better town!

I would like to see smaller class sizes in District 113 schools, repaving of Illinois Street, and improvement of the Archer and McCarthy Rd. intersection

A good resteraunt, and the filling of the empty stores (I.e the old Wendy's, famous footwear and where belly busters use to be). Planers would be a great new resteraunt

Our downtown businesses die for lack of enough traffic/people. We need to better utilize our river valley to attract people to Lemont to recreate...and spend money. DesPlaines River dam should be replaced opening it up for fishing and boating and snowmobiling in winter months. The quarry areas should be refined and developed for recreation in many more ways than at present. The I and M can be a "river walk" like Naperville. We have a great resource but no effort is made to really develop it. Our planners should develop business models and seek outside operators to run the businesses...considering the Village owns or leases all this land. People need a *reason* to come to Lemont.

Remove the gates at 1st and 4th streets. The village board and mayor constantly try to promote the downtown area, but refuse to remove the gates to provide easy access to downtown for the residents.

1st and 4th streets would become a dragstrip if the gates are removed and make an easy getaway for criminals. people in Covington have easy access now so it might take a driver an extra couple of minutes using Fruehauf and Keepataw. to state st.. How lazy can you be? Not only that, people north of the gates would be risking life crossing the street due to hot rodders flying down the streets.

Lazy? I guess we should put up gates on Timberline, Covington Dr., and Hillview to name a few to keep the criminals out of our neighborhood. What makes 1st and 4th so special? As far as hot rodders; there are these things called stop signs? Why are stop signs OK for every other street in Lemont, but not for 1st and 4th streets. I have to risk my life every day crossing Covington Dr. to put my kid on the bus, hoping the hot rodders obey the stop signs (sarcasm). These are public streets we all have the right to use them, my laziness has nothing to do with it.

I do have to ask Joe G? Are you not concerned about "Risking you life" when the snow plow has to turn around every time it snows? The president of the Lemont Public Works advised all the residents on 1st, 4th & Keough that "There is nothing more dangerous than a snow plow backing up" when he advised the Lemont Village Board to remove the gates & open the streets for safety reasons. So do you only believe in safety concerns when it fit's your cause? Also, if your so concerned with the "criminal aspect" of our town, both the police & fire chiefs have publicly supported the gates being opened to allow for easier access to patrol the Village of Lemont. Given your theory, I will just put them in the lazy category as well.

Lemont should have a Italian/European style town square for people to gather all year. Like the cobblestone piazza's in Italy surrounded by some small, quaint businesses. The Peterson Hardware buildings area would be perfect ? Let's buy them and just do it!

1. Bury the power lines! I feel like we're all living under a giant spider web.
2. Paint the hideous, rusty train bridge that people see when they drive into downtown.
3. Apply dandelion-killer along State Street in the spring.
4. Bulldoze the abandoned gas station across from Lemon Tree.
5. Replace Jewel with a grocery store that actually keeps items in stock.
