Screaming For Ice Cream: Bites Nearby

Quell your inner sweet-tooth with a trip to one of these local establishments.

It’s a summertime tradition—hopping in the car, walking or riding a bike in search of a cool treat. Patch found several local restaurants to help with late-evening—or anytime—cravings. Feel free to add your favorite eateries in the comments section below and tell us why.

Andy’s Frozen Custard in Bolingbrook, located near Boughton and Weber Road, offers frozen custard creations. Try one of Andy’s favorites—the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer made with custard, peanut butter, homemade brownies and hot fudge, or a seasonal specialty such as the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae.

Culver’s in Darien entices customers with daily flavors that encourage multiple trips. This weekend’s picks are: Thursday, Orange Creamsicle; Friday, Turtle; Saturday, Raspberry Cordial; and Sunday, Butterfinger Pecan. The month’s menu is listed on the site so you can plan ahead for your favorite featured flavors.

A trip to Cold Stone Creamery near Seven Bridges in Woodridge often involves singing or cheers from the employees as they assemble your ice cream creations on a slab of, you guessed it, cold stone. The Founder’s Favorite combines ice cream, pecans, fudge, brownie and caramel. The Cake Batter ice cream tastes remarkably like the tastes that you sneak from the bottom of the mixing bowl— and you can choose even more “Mix-Ins” to add extra pizzazz.

Muffins Ice Cream Shoppe in Lemont not only makes homemade ice cream, in addition to gelato and yogurt, but also offers what many call a match made in heaven—frosted cupcakes and other various cakey-delights. Begin with one of 21 ice cream flavors, such as Brownie Batter, Cappuccino or Hawaiian Delight, and add a caramel or fudge sauce or some M & M’s. Some might call this dinner.
