Report: Cog Hill Loses Out on 2013 BMW Championship

The tournament will move to Conway Farms in Lake Forest, according to multiple reports.

Lemont's is officially out of the running for the 2013 BMW Championship, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Conway Farms, located in Lake Forest, will host the event, according to the report.

Cog Hill played host to the predecessor to the BMW Championship, the Western Open, from 1991 to its final event in 2006. The club then hosted the BMW Championship in 2007, and 2009-2011.

The 2012 tournament will be held at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, and is slated for Colorado’s Cherry Hills Country Club in 2014.

The Western Golf Association and PGA Tour are expected to officially announce the site in the coming weeks, marking the end of Cog Hill's run as host.

WGA officials said the Lemont course was "definitely in consideration for the event," but would not confirm or deny the Tribune report. Cog Hill President Katherine Jemsek said she has yet to be informed of an official decision.

Dubsdread (Course No. 4), which was renovated by Rees Jones in 2008, has been widely criticized in recent years. Numerous players, including Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, have spoken out about the condition of the greens and the difficulty of the course.

In response to the complaints, Cog Hill hired a new superintendent, Scott Pavalko, to oversee improvements prior to the 2011 event.

WGA Director of Tournaments Vince Pellegrino that he was pleased with the condition of the course and the response of Cog Hill officials.

“Everything’s been done that you can do without redesigning the golf course,” he said.

Pellegrino said the success of the 2011 BMW Championship would factor into the WGA's selection for the 2013 tournament site.

“We’re going to be looking at the attendance, how the players like the golf course, the conditioning, and just overall what our goals are for the future of the championship,” he said in September.
