The Lemont Police Department has announced the results of its Labor Day crackdown, in which officers made five arrests for impaired driving and numerous other arrests for various offenses. The arrests were made as part of the department’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket” effort.

The number of citations and the offenses for which they were issued is as follows:

•   5 - DUIs
• 30 - Safety belt tickets
•   4 - Warrant arrests
• 14 - Suspended driver’s license
•   7 - Revoked driver’s license
•   7 - No valid driver’s license
• 18 - Uninsured motorists
• 90 - Speeding
•   6 - Drug arrests
•   6 - Registration offenses
• 16 - Equipment offenses

Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in the nationwide crackdown, which ran from Aug. 17 through Labor Day, Sept. 3.

Lemont police joined forces with other state and local law enforcement agencies as well as numerous highway safety partners in conducting the crackdown. The effort featured high-visibility enforcement with a variety of outreach activities, including a strategic media campaign and additional enforcement activity.

Emphasis was given to late-night hours when statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest motorists buckle up.

The law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety grants through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety, part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click it or Ticket” campaigns.
