Old Quarry Student Struck by Vehicle Crossing 127th Street
The girl was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to Lemont fire officials.
A 13-year-old Old Quarry Middle School student suffered minor injuries Tuesday after she was struck by a vehicle on her walk home from school.
Lemont Fire Chief Carl Churulo confirmed the accident occurred around 2:40 p.m. near the Lemont Park District campus on 127th Street near Eagle Crest Drive.
Lemont Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy said the girl was crossing 127th Street at Eagle Crest—where there's a marked crosswalk—when she was hit by the driver, whose named has not been released.
Churulo said the girl was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. On the Lemont Patch Facebook page, the girl's brother said she had some cuts and bruises but was otherwise OK.
The Lemont Police Department, which is handling the investigation, issued a citation to the woman driving the car for striking a pedestrian.
District 113A Superintendent Susan Birkenmaier said the school was aware of the incident, but could not provide any additional details.
"Student safety is always our primary concern," Birkenmaier said. "We are waiting for more information on the investigation, because at this point we don't know exactly what happened."
Patch will update this story as more details become available.

Pay attention in school zones... Kids do not always pay attention... Especially at age 13 hence the reason they do not have a drivers license.. So for all of us that do ...PAY ATTENTION

FYI I know this 13 year old girl and she is a very bright young lady. She probably WAS looking and this driver 8-5, was texting.

All thoughts and prayers should be with the child and their family. My heart goes out to the entire family during this very difficult.

You are correct Ed, but I don't blame the victim. I just wanted to point out that the overpass discussions put it at Timberline, on a different route, in a different direction from the Eagle Crest crosswalk.
