The Old Quarry Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team captured the Southeast DuPage Elementary Athletic Association tournament championship Tuesday with a 27-21 win over Lakeview.
The top-seeded Warrior ended the season 21-3 overall and 16-2 in the SDEAA.
Old Quarry won the regular-season, big school title via multiple tiebreakers over Jefferson of Woodridge and Lakeview of Downers Grove.
Ali Kramer and Paige Terrazas each had nine points in the title game. Kramer, Terrazas and Michelle Jerantowski combined to pull down 30 rebounds and were named to the conference’s all-star team.
Old Quarry led 10-4 after a quarter and 12-10 at the half. The Warriors outscored the Spartans 10-2 in the fourth quarter to win the school’s first tournament championship since 2006. The team won the regular-season large school title in 2010.
The Warriors also won the SS. Cyril and Methodius tournament and took third place in the 36th annual Westmont Rotary Club tournament to start the season.
Other key contributions came from Rose Arnold, Abby Bernabei, McKenna Gardner,Neeve Hehir, Daniela Hunt, Kiara Hardy, Susan Nelson, Milica Urosevic and Sedona Wise. The team was coached by Shawn Ryan.

Anyone who has seen this team play knows exactly why they took the championship. They are talented and focused and have a fierce defense. Congratulations to all of the girls and to Mr. Ryan. I hope you had as much fun playing as we did spectating!
