Obama Gun Proposal: Background Checks for All Gun Purchases

President Obama spoke to the nation this morning and presented a proposal to reduce gun violence.

"I will put everything I've got into this and so will Joe [Biden]," Obama said in his closing remarks today.
Of particular note in his proposal, Obama called for the following:
- Reinstate lapsed ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines.
- Requiring background checks on all gun purchases.
- Ban armor piercing ammunition.
- Called on Congress to confirm a new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
- Improve access to mental health services and provide information to mental health professionals who want to report threats of violence.
- Provide incentives for schools to hire resource officers, should they choose to, to step up school security.

The only "workable" defination of assualt weapon is "any firearm, shoulder or hand held that is capable of fully automatic operation". Yes, it is that simple. No other defination will work! I don't care how "mean" or "military" they look.
As for "titles" for each firearm etc...I say no way! No one needs to know what a gun owner may have...eliminates the possibility of future confiscation.
Clip size is a useless rule...a shooter sinply has to arm himself with multiple clips.
Schools and other crowd gathering places like theatres and churches should be allowed armed guards if they so choose. There should be no "no firearm zones".
Eliminate the Doctor turn in of mentally ill folks. That area needs work but family would be better at determining how dangerous a person might be. The rule will simply keep sick people from seeing a doctor. Mental health is a problem that needs attention and facilities to help these people cope.
In short...most of what we see is bluster and window dressing. Obamas dream is to confiscate all guns. That will not happen!
Armor piercing bullets...ban their sale to private citizens...there is no valid need for same...shooters can do without them.
Illinois needs to approve CCW with training as a requirement...resonable training!
