Well, today's the day.

Beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Lemont voters will head to the polls to decide the winners of the presidential, congressional and state primaries, as well as the outcome of the proposed electric aggregation referendum.

When to Vote

The primary takes place Tuesday, March 20. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Where to Vote

Your polling place depends on which precinct you live in. To find your polling place, visit the Cook County Clerk's website. Voters in Lemont can also  visit the websites of the DuPage County Clerk and the Will County Clerk. Polling places can change last minute. You can also refer to the precinct map to the right.

How to Vote

According to the Cook County Clerk's Office, there are four steps to voting on Tuesday:

When you arrive at your polling place, election judges will locate a pre-printed application for ballot form. You will sign the form, and your identity will be verified.

An election judge will determine your ballot style and ask your political party, which determines which offices and candidates you will vote for (based on where you live). You will receive your ballot slip with a style number.

A judge will then ask you if you want to vote using a paper optical scan ballot or a touch-screen machine.

Once you've made your decision, you will proceed to a private voting booth to cast your ballot.

Electric Aggregation Referendum

Lemont residents will be asked to vote on a referendum that would authorize electric aggregation, an option under state law that allows municipalities to bundle residential and commercial accounts and negotiate with third-party suppliers for the lowest price.

The referendum will appear on on the March 20 ballot in this form:

“Shall the Village of Lemont have the Authority to arrange for the supply of electricity for its residential and small commercial retail customers who have not opted out of such program?”
