A Darien man charged with kidnapping a woman at knifepoint and murdering her friend will be held without bond in DuPage County Jail.
Joseph Spitalli, 34, of the 7500 block of Country Lane in Darien, appeared in court Monday morning and it was ordered that he would remain in custody without bond.
Police say they responded to a battery call at 12:25 a.m. Friday and found 31-year-old Teymur Huseynli dead in the front lawn from a knife wound.
Spitalli was charged with Huseynli's murder, as well as aggravated kidnapping. Police say he kidnapped Huseynli's girlfriend at knifepoint.
According to The Chicago Tribune, the woman who was kidnapped petitioned for an order of protection against Spitalli after she lived with him. DuPage County Court records show that a woman filed an order of protection Sept. 11, but it was denied by a judge Oct. 2.
Darien Police Chief Ernest Brown said the department is not releasing more information at this time, but appreciated the work by the department.
"It was a terribly tragic incident," Brown said. "Our detectives performed absolutely like experts – it really speaks to their level of professionalism."
