The Lemont Athletic Club, a travel basketball program for boys and girls in grades four through eight, is seeking new players and basketball-experienced coaches to expand its program and increase its community impact.
Tryouts for all LAC teams are scheduled for Sunday and Monday, Sept. 9 and 10, at various times and locations in Lemont. (Click here for tryout dates and locations.)
“We are particularly focused on increasing our participation on girls’ teams, and on establishing two teams at each level for both boys and girls,” said LAC President Tom Geraghty.
“I don’t want potential participants to let the word ‘travel’ scare them,” Geraghty added. “We want to introduce, develop, and teach fundamental basketball skills in an enjoyable team environment. All are welcome to try out, and we hope to see new faces – both players and coaches.”
LAC currently has 11 teams, including teams for fourth- through eighth-grade boys and fifth- through eighth-grade girls. The club is seeking basketball-experienced coaches for fourth and fifth-grade boys’ teams.
In its eighth year, the organization aims to teach teamwork as well as life skills to help athletes mature and become successful in school, in life, and on the court. LAC coaches emphasize sportsmanship, team commitment, skills improvement, and respect for teammates, coaches, opponents and officials.
Recent club successes include winning the 2012 Chicago Ridge League Championship for both fourth-and fifth-grade boys.
