From the Archives: The Lemont Outing Club
Take a glimpse into Lemont’s History courtesy of the Lemont Area Historical Society.
The Lemont Area Historical Society (LAHS) has generously offered to share photos and accompanying information with Patch readers each week, depicting people, places and things from the village’s storied past.
This week, the local historical society shares a photo of a 1914 gathering of the Lemont Outing Club. According to John Quinn of the Lemont Area Historical Society, it seems the group did precisely what the name implies – they gathered to go on several outings during the year.
In this photo, taken behind John Powalish’s Saloon at Lemont and Main streets (where the Main Inn is currently located), Lemont Outing Club members are, front row: Lollie Schneider, Mike Kluga, Joe Piekarski and Sam Kluga; seated on lumber: Pete Novacki; seated on right: Joe Kaminski; and back row: Frank Slachetka, Al Powalish, Lottie Shaski, Mrs. John Powalish; boy with hand to his face: John Shaski. The names of the children and girl are unknown.

Sharing these items from the Historical Society has become my favorite Patch feature. Thank you and the society!

These historical society pictures are super neat. I really liked this one and hearing their back story.
