Cook County Clerk Honors Lemont Election Judges

Robert Herb and Anne Desmond were among 60 suburban election judges recognized last month for their "excellent precinct performance."

Two election judges were recognized last month by Cook County Clerk David Orr for their outstanding service in their precincts.

Robert Herb and Anne Desmond were among 60 suburban election judges recognized Oct. 19 during the county's fifth annual Judge Recognition Ceremony, according to a news release from the Cook County Clerk's office.

Honorees — two from each township — were nominated by a Clerk's office staff member, township committeemen, township supervisors or other election judges. The winners ranged in age from 21 to 85.

“You’re here because you’ve hit those high notes over and over again on Election Day,” said Master of Ceremonies Vince Gerasole, a CBS Chicago reporter. “Elections would not be possible without you.”

Nearly 10,000 election judges work 16-hour shifts each Election Day, beginning at 5 a.m. They are responsible for setting up the polling place and election equipment, assisting voters when asked and securing votes at the end of the night.
