Ace Hardware to Open New Store in Lemont
The store will open this October at 1096 State St. in the site formerly occupied by True Value and The Swing.
Ace Hardware will open a new location in Lemont later this year, Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves announced Monday.
The home improvement store is set to open this October at 1096 State St., next to Chipain's Fresh Market. The site was formerly occupied by True Value—another hardware store—and the short-lived sports complex, The Swing.
The franchise will be run by Dan and Pattie Harris, who already own an Ace Hardware in Palos Heights. The couple was on hand for the announcement Monday at the Lemont Village Board meeting.
"On behalf of our family, we want to thank (the village board) and staff for working with us for the many years we've been coming out here and finally finding a home location," Dan Harris said.
Harris said the Lemont store will be the couple's third; they previously owned a franchise in Orland Park for a number of years.
The Palos Heights store has been open since 1998, and has been recognized by the Ace Hardware Corporation as one of the nation's top-performing stores, Harris said.
In Palos Heights, Harris has served as the president of the chamber of commerce, and has been a member of several advisory committees. He said he hopes to bring the same spirit to Lemont.
"We're eager to be here, and are excited to be in this community," Harris said. "We just ask that the community supports us. We're locally owned, and we will pay back in many different ways."
Harris said he hopes to open the store by mid-September or early October.
During the meeting, Mayor Reaves thanked village staff and trustees for working with the Harrises and the building developer to finalize the deal.
"It's a true testament to how hard everyone is working," Reaves said of the new store.
"We can hear what's wrong (with the village) on a daily basis. It's hard, but days like today definitely make it all worth while," he said.
Reaves said the village is working with the developer to start the process of tearing down the vacant gas station on State Street in anticipation of Ace Hardware's opening.
Harris said he's hopeful the store will generate more traffic along State Street, which could lead to more businesses coming to town.

This is a good fit for Lemont and it will be great to see the gas station removed. What an eyesore it has been. Thanks to village people who landed this deal.

Good news! It'll be nice not having to drive into Homer Glen to Home Depot or Menards every time I need something during a project

I greet this with mixed emotion. I recognize every individuals right to open a business selling what they want where they want. I am 76 years old and it seems that I have been buying hardware from Petersons Hardware here in downtown Lemont for at least fifty years...maybe more. Hard to find hardware and people with knowledge to help you solve your "fix it" problem are what they offered for years. I am seldom dissapointed when I shop Petersons. It may be time to remind Lemonter's that they need to supoport their local businesses who have been loyal and paid high property taxes to keep their doors open to serve your needs, for years. If there was any loyalty left in the world...we wouldn't need another hardware store would we?

I've had an account at Elsie's for over thirty years and she's still my #1 stop but I plan on shopping at both stores.

Ed its great that you frequent Petersons, they were here long before the old True Value: thats gone. Along with the Sears: thats gone. However many of the people who live in Lemont dont care to shop in such an old environment. Its more of a novelty type place. I have been here for nearly twenty years and have only been there a handful of times, mainly because I need something, know what I want and to get in and get out. Maybe you need to realize that other people may have other loyalties

I am thrilled to have them here!!! No more having to run out-of-town to get what we need! Mr. Andrysiak, I thought Petersons was up for sale.

When I was a lad in Lemont, there were three hardware stores in the downtown area. Petersons, Blesch and Welter, and Dalpos. There always seemed to be enough business to go around. I welcome another hardware store in Lemont. Peterson's Ace Hardware will always have a place in my do-it-yourself world. Many things I cannot find in the larger more modern hardware palaces are tucked away at Elsie's.

I am personally ecstatic about Ace Hardware coming to town. We are long overdue for a modern hardware store that will be tailored to the needs of our community. This store will be a viable addition to Lemont. It will make all of our lives a little easier not having to travel, as well as give our money, to other municipalities to buy supplies. I am very tired of having to drive 15 minutes just to buy a simple household item. In my opinion, they can’t open fast enough. I hope Lemont will support this much needed business in our community.
Sincerely,
Kerry
